Why You Should Consider an Institutional Subscription
- Cost-effective: Even if only a few people in your organization sign up for Quetzal® Professional or Advanced, your institution will save money with an institutional subscription.
- Encourage Use of the Best Resources: Providing the Quetzal® solution institution-wide adds a completely different way of investigating the literature and could save your organization millions in lost opportunity costs, failed grant proposals, and the all-to-common efforts on projects that started only because critical literature was missed.
- Communication: Quetzal's built-in private Journal Clubs enables your staff to discuss critical articles in a secure setting, thus providing an important means for entire groups to share information and contribute to effective decisions.
- Security and Privacy: Everything done via the Quetzal® website is private and protected. SSL technology encrypts all communication and all user searches, personal annotations, and Journal Club discussions are encrypted for privacy.
- Free Training and Resources: With an Institutional Subscription, Quertle® staff can provide web-based training to help you and your organization to get the best benefits. These sessions can be recorded so that your users can access the sessions at any time at their convenience. We can also provide you with electronic resources, such as flyers, suggested email messaging, and imaging.
ROI |
Has a grant application from your organization ever been turned down because the applicant hadn't found a key reference? Has your organization ever embarked on a project only to find out later that you missed critical information that would have changed your decision? The answer to these questions is almost certainly "yes". The loss of a single grant application costs you an average of $505,000 per year. The money wasted on projects that shouldn't have started can cost millions (even hundreds of millions).
Quetzal® uses a unique search methodology that helps reduce the risk of missing critical documents - at a cost that is a mere fraction of a single mistake your organization could make.

How It Works
- One Subscription Enables Unlimited User Accounts: With an institutional subscription, each user creates their own private user account (at the level of your subscription) at no cost. These accounts allow the users to save searches, get alerts, save articles with private notes, and engage in private Journal Club discussions.
- IP Recognition: Quetzal® recognizes a user as being from your organization by IP address (including off-site users who use VPN or a proxy server through your institution to access Quetzal). You provide your institution's IP range(s) when you sign up for a subscription. Any user from your organization is then provided with a message on the Quetzal® Welcome page informing them of your subscription, but your users do not incur any costs and are not asked for any credit card information.
- License: In the absence of a separate license agreement, Quertle follows the SERU guidelines, as published at the NISO SERU website.

Cost
Subscription cost is dependent on the following factors:
- Version: The cost depends on which Quetzal® version (Professional or Advanced) you choose.
- Institution Type: The cost for your institution depends on whether your organization is For Profit or Non-profit.
- Institution Size: Smaller institutions are eligible for lower pricing.
- Multi-year Commitments: Multi-year commitments provide corresponding discounts (for example, 10% discount with a two-year commitment). Plus, multi-year licensing provides locked-in price increases.
- Consortia: Consortia (e.g., regional, state, or affiliation) pricing is available.
- Flexible Payment Schedules and Renewal Dates: We can customize payment and renewal dates depending on your needs.
- Trial: We can set up a short free trial for your organization or longer reduced-cost trials.
